Road transport · full truckload

Full truckload transport (FTL)

A whole truck just for your goods, as a full load: it is loaded at your site and goes straight to the consignee, with no transshipment. We organise runs in Romania and across Europe.

Full truckload

What full truckload (FTL) transport means

Full truckload transport (FTL) means that you pay for the whole vehicle and use it only for your goods. The goods do not pass through intermediate warehouses, are not handled by others and go straight to the consignee.

It is the natural choice when you fill most of the semi-trailer, when the goods are sensitive to handling or when the delivery date matters. For regular flows we can agree terms for several runs on the same route.

  • Only your goods in the truck, no other shippers
  • No transshipment and no warehouses on the way
  • Loading date and route set for your run

Vehicles

Which vehicle is used

We choose the semi-trailer to suit the goods and the way they are loaded. Dimensions and capacities are on the vehicle sheets; we confirm them for the vehicle assigned.

  • Standard curtainsider semi-trailer

Loaded from the rear, from the side by forklift or from the top by crane.

  • Mega trailer

For bulky, light goods that need more height.

  • Box semi-trailer

For goods that must be protected from the weather or from theft; loaded from the rear.

  • Tandem truck + trailer

For very large volumes of light goods.

What you get

What you get with a full truckload transport

A full truckload is organised around your goods: loading at the agreed time, one or more points along the route and a direct journey to the consignee.

  • Dedicated

A vehicle just for your goods

Nobody else loads into the semi-trailer. Loading and delivery times are set for your run.

  • Loading

From the rear, side or top

On a curtainsider the sides or the roof can be opened, for loading by forklift or crane, when there is no loading dock.

  • Seal

No transshipment, with a seal on request

The goods stay in the same semi-trailer until unloading; the doors can be sealed at loading.

  • Recurring

    Several points or regular runs

We can combine a few loading or unloading points along the route and can plan recurring flows on the same route.

Alternatives

When it is NOT the right option

  • You only have a few pallets: groupage is usually the better value.

    Groupage / LTL

  • The goods are small and very urgent: a dedicated van can get there faster.

    Express transport

  • The goods exceed the permitted dimensions: permits and, sometimes, an escort are needed.

    Oversized transport

Types of goods

What types of goods go by full truckload

  • Full loads of EUR pallets or industrial pallets
  • Bulky, light goods that fill the semi-trailer before the weight limit (packaging, furniture, automotive parts in boxes)
  • Heavy goods, up to the legal limit of the vehicle combination
  • Handling-sensitive or valuable goods, for which you want zero transshipments
  • Regular supply of a production line
  • Goods with several loading or unloading points on the same route

How it works

How full truckload transport works

  1. Step 1

    The request

You tell us the route, the date, the goods, how they are loaded (loading dock, side, crane) and whether it is a one-off run or a regular flow.

  2. Step 2

    The vehicle and the quote

We choose the type of semi-trailer and send you the quote, with the loading and unloading time included and the possible extra costs.

  3. Step 3

    Assignment

We book the vehicle and give you the registration number and the estimated arrival time for loading.

  4. Step 4

    Loading

The goods are loaded and secured, the CMR consignment note is completed and, if required, the semi-trailer is sealed.

  5. Step 5

    Direct transport and delivery

The truck goes straight to the consignee. We confirm delivery and send you the signed CMR copy.

Information needed

Information needed for a quote

The more accurate the details, the more precise the quote. If you don’t know something, choose “I don’t know”.

  • Loading and delivery addresses (or at least the country, postcode and town)
  • Loading date or window and the desired delivery deadline
  • The goods: description, type of packaging, number of units, dimensions, total weight, stackable or not
  • Loading method: from the rear at a loading dock, from the side by forklift or from the top by crane
  • Preferred type of semi-trailer, if you know it (curtainsider, mega, box), or “I don’t know”
  • Number of loading and unloading points
  • One-off run or regular flow (how many runs per month, on which routes)
  • Pallet exchange, seal or other requirements

Documents

Documents for full truckload transport

  • CMR consignment note Issued at loading, signed by the shipper, the carrier and the consignee.
  • Invoice / delivery note and packing list Issued by the shipper.
  • Seal number If the semi-trailer is sealed, the number is entered on the CMR.
  • RO e-Transport UIT code When the transport falls under the ANAF (Romanian tax authority) system.
  • Customs documents For routes outside the EU (export, transit, import).

Restrictions

Restrictions we take into account

  • The total weight is limited by the maximum legal weight of the vehicle combination, not just by the technical capacity of the semi-trailer; see the vehicle sheet.
  • If the goods are taller than a standard curtainsider allows, a mega trailer or a special solution is needed.
  • Side or top loading is only possible with semi-trailers that allow it (not with the box trailer).
  • The goods must be properly secured (straps, bars, anti-slip mats); securing is discussed before loading.
  • The loading and unloading times included are stated in the quote; beyond them, waiting time may be charged, only under the conditions in the quote.

Costs

What affects the cost of a full truckload

We do not publish fixed rates: the quote is calculated for your route, goods and date and states clearly what it includes.

  1. 01

Kilometres on the route and the empty run to the loading place

  2. 02

    Direction

On some routes carriers find it hard to get a return load

  3. 03

Type of semi-trailer (mega, box or with special equipment cost differently)

  4. 04

Number of loading and unloading points

  5. 05

Waiting time at the loading dock

  6. 06

Road tolls, ferries and traffic restrictions

  7. 07

    Date flexibility

A fixed, close date limits the options

  8. 08

Spot run or regular flow on the same route

Full truckload or another option?

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about full truckload

Talk to the team

Is a full truckload worth it if I don’t fill the whole semi-trailer?

You pay for the whole vehicle, however much of it you use. If the goods take up less than a third of the length, groupage or a part load usually works out better value. If you need direct delivery or a fixed date, a full truckload can be worth it even for fewer goods.

How many pallets fit in a truck?

It depends on the type of semi-trailer, the type of pallet and how they are arranged. Reference values are on the curtainsider semi-trailer sheet; for your actual goods use What vehicle do I need?.

Who loads and who secures the goods?

As a rule the shipper loads, with their own equipment (forklift, crane). The goods are secured with straps, bars or anti-slip mats, and the driver checks that the load is stable. Securing is discussed before loading, and who does what is set out in the quote, so that there are no surprises at the loading dock.

What happens if there is a long wait at loading?

The quote includes a loading and unloading time. If the wait exceeds it, waiting time may be charged, only under the conditions written in the quote. We let you know as soon as we know there is a delay.

Can you run regular trips on the same route?

Yes. Tell us the estimated volume (runs per month) and the routes, and the HONEXPRES team will propose terms for that flow. Planning ahead increases the chances of having vehicles available on the dates you want.
