Full truckload, groupage or special vehicles, for general goods and goods with special requirements. We choose the carrier and the vehicle for each run, and the HONEXPRES team coordinates the transport until delivery.

Options

Which road transport option suits you

HONEXPRES is a freight forwarder: we do not sell a particular truck, we organise the option that suits your goods and coordinate it until delivery. Each service below has its own page, with details, documents and frequently asked questions.

  • General goods

Palletised goods, packaged goods or equipment with no special requirements, by full truckload or groupage.

Help choosing

Not sure which road transport you need?

Start from the goods and the route. Four simple rules cover most situations; for the rest, the configurator or the form will help you.

  • Groupage (LTL)

    A few pallets, not urgent

You pay for the space you use; your goods travel together with other customers’ goods.

    Groupage (LTL)

  • Full truckload (FTL)

Most of the semi-trailer or direct delivery

A dedicated vehicle, direct loading to the consignee.

    Full truckload (FTL)

  • Express transport

    Small, urgent goods

A small dedicated vehicle, with a quick departure.

    Express transport

  • The matching special service

Out of gauge, machinery, ADR or temperature

Oversized, machinery, ADR, refrigerated or containers: each has its own page, with the right vehicle and documents.

General goods

General cargo transport

General cargo transport, also called general goods transport, suits goods that need no special temperature conditions, no ADR authorisation and no oversized vehicles. It is one of the most widely used solutions for companies that deliver commercial products, palletised goods, materials, equipment, packaged products or goods for distribution.

HONEXPRES organises general goods transport on domestic and international routes. We offer you flexible options, depending on volume, weight, delivery deadline and budget.

What counts as general goods

General goods can include packaged products, boxes, pallets, equipment, components, production materials, finished products, commercial goods or goods for shops and warehouses. In general, these are goods that can be carried by standard vehicles, with no special requirements.

Examples of general goods

  • Palletised goods: building materials, packaging, packaged non-perishable food products
  • Finished products for shops and warehouses: household appliances, packaged furniture, textiles
  • Components and materials for production: parts, subassemblies, packaged raw materials
  • Equipment within standard dimensions, on a pallet or in a crate
  • Parcels and crates grouped on a pallet, for distribution with several delivery points

FTL or LTL transport for general goods

FTL transport is recommended when you have enough goods for a full truck or when you want the vehicle to be dedicated exclusively to your shipment. It is a good option for direct deliveries, high-value goods, clear deadlines or distribution on well-established routes.

LTL transport suits smaller volumes. Your goods share the space with other compatible deliveries. This option can reduce costs and is useful for companies that do not need a whole truck. Both options can be efficient. The choice depends on urgency, volume, destination and budget.

  • Full truckload (FTL)

A vehicle for your goods only, loading at your site and direct delivery.

    See full truckload

  • Groupage (LTL)

A few pallets together with other shippers’ goods, in the same direction.

    See groupage

Which vehicle suits general cargo

Depending on quantity and dimensions, the transport can be done with a curtainsider semi-trailer, a van, a light truck, a rigid truck or another suitable vehicle. The choice of vehicle matters. A vehicle that is too large can increase the cost. A vehicle that is too small can cause problems at loading. That is why the details of the goods must be sent correctly.

  • 3.5 t van

Parcels and a few pallets, urgent or city deliveries.

    See the sheet

  • Rigid truck

Regional deliveries and easier access to towns or small warehouses.

    See the sheet

  • Curtainsider semi-trailer

Full truckload or groupage; loading from the rear, the side or the top.

    See the sheet

  • Mega trailer

Bulky, light goods that need more height.

    See the sheet

The vehicles belong to the carriers we work with; we confirm the exact type at assignment, based on the details of the goods.

When it is no longer general goods

If the goods have one of the requirements below, the transport is organised under the special service, with the right vehicle and documents:

  • ADR

    Dangerous goods

They have a UN number or an SDS with an ADR classification.

    See the service

  • Temperature

    Controlled temperature

They must be kept within a temperature range.

    See the service

  • Dimensions

    Out of gauge

They exceed the permitted dimensions or weights.

    See the service

Useful information for planning

To calculate the transport correctly, we need simple but precise information. The number of pallets, the weight, the volume, the type of packaging and the full addresses help in choosing the vehicle. The working hours of the warehouses, whether there is a loading dock and the access conditions also matter.

If the goods are delivered on a recurring basis, we can analyse the frequency, the destinations and the average volumes. That way we can propose a more stable option, not just a one-off solution. For companies that deliver regularly, this planning can reduce delays and unnecessary costs.

How to get a quote for general goods

We can help companies that ship occasionally as well as firms with recurring flows. If you need general goods transport in Romania or Europe, send the delivery details: the weight, the volume, the number of pallets, the type of packaging, the addresses and the loading and unloading hours.

Steps, documents, restrictions and costs

For general cargo the same framework applies as for all road transport. You will find it further down this page:

Routes

Domestic and international road transport

  • National freight transport, throughout Romania

Direct deliveries by full truckload, groupage for a few pallets or urgent runs by 3.5 t van. For regular flows between suppliers, factories, warehouses and customers, we agree the frequency and the vehicle together.

  • International road freight transport in Europe

The goods travel with a CMR consignment note. We plan the run taking into account driving and rest times, weekend restrictions and public holidays in the transit countries; on routes outside the EU we also coordinate the customs formalities associated with the transport.

Types of goods

What types of goods we transport

  • Palletised goods: building materials, packaging, consumer goods, automotive parts
  • Industrial equipment and components, loaded by forklift or crane
  • Furniture, household appliances and other bulky but light goods
  • Regular supply for production, on the same route
  • Goods entering or leaving the EU, with customs formalities coordinated

How it works

How it works: from request to delivery

  1. Step 1

Tell us what you need to transport

Fill in the quote request or call us: loading and delivery addresses, dates, goods, packaging, dimensions and weight. If you don’t know something, choose “I don’t know” and the HONEXPRES team will help you.

  2. Step 2

We choose the solution and the vehicle

We determine whether it is a full truckload, a part load or groupage, what type of semi-trailer is needed and how it is loaded: from the rear, from the side or from the top.

  3. Step 3

    You receive the quote

The quote states what it includes, how long it is valid and what extra costs may arise (for example waiting beyond the time included), with the condition under which they arise.

  4. Step 4

    We assign the carrier

After confirmation we assign the carrier, once its documents have been checked (the transport licence and the CMR liability insurance, plus ADR or ATP certificates where applicable), and send you the vehicle details and the estimated loading time.

  5. Step 5

    Loading, transit, delivery

The goods leave with the CMR consignment note. We confirm loading, any delays and delivery; at the end you receive the CMR copy signed by the consignee.

Information needed

Information needed for a quote

The more accurate the details, the more precise the quote. If you don’t know something, choose “I don’t know” in the form and the HONEXPRES team will help you fill it in.

  • Place of loading and of delivery: country, postcode, town (the full address when you place the order)
  • Loading date or preferred window and, if there is one, the delivery deadline
  • Description of the goods and type of packaging (EUR pallets, industrial pallets, parcels, crates, drums, etc.)
  • Number of units, the dimensions of each and the weight (per unit or total)
  • Whether the goods can be stacked
  • Loading and unloading conditions: loading dock, forklift, crane, need for a tail lift
  • Whether the goods are dangerous (ADR), need controlled temperature or are out of gauge
  • Whether the route leaves the EU (customs) and the value of the goods, if you want cargo insurance
  • Company (CUI, the Romanian tax identification number) and a contact person with a phone number

Documents

Documents for road transport

  • CMR consignment note The contract document for international road transport; it is completed at loading and signed on delivery. The signed copy is the proof of delivery.
  • Invoice or delivery note Issued by the shipper; they travel with the goods.
  • Packing list Useful for groupage and, in practice, required at customs.
  • RO e-Transport UIT code For transports covered by the ANAF (Romanian tax authority) system; we agree together who declares it.
  • Customs documents (EX1 / T1 / import declaration) Only if the goods enter or leave the EU; see the customs formalities associated with the transport.
  • ADR transport document and safety data sheet (SDS) Only for dangerous goods.

Restrictions

Restrictions we take into account

  • Weight and dimensionsThe weight and dimensions of the goods must stay within the vehicle’s limits and the legal limits; beyond them it is oversized transport, with permits.
  • Traffic restrictionsIn many European countries heavy trucks are subject to driving restrictions at weekends and on public holidays; we take them into account when planning.
  • Driving times and time windowsDrivers’ driving and rest times are regulated; a long run cannot be “shortened” beyond these rules. Loading and unloading time windows matter too.
  • ADR and tunnelsFor dangerous goods, the tunnel category limits the route; the route is chosen accordingly.
  • Access zonesUrban zones with restricted access (tonnage, emissions, hours) and hard-to-reach delivery points; we check access before choosing the vehicle.
  • Oversized permitsWhen dimensions or weight are exceeded, road permits, an approved route and, if needed, an escort.

The goods must be packed and secured for the road: stable pallets, stretch film, corner protectors. Insufficient packaging can lead to refusal at loading or to reservations on the CMR. We do not organise inland waterway transport or passenger transport.

Costs

What affects the cost of road transport

We do not publish fixed rates: each quote is calculated for your route, goods and date and states clearly what it includes.

  1. 01

    Distance and route

The kilometres driven, the road tolls, ferries and tunnels on the route

  2. 02

    Type of vehicle

Standard curtainsider, mega, box or a vehicle with a tail lift, depending on the goods and the unloading point

  3. 03

    Type of load

Full truckload, part load or groupage; the loading metres (LDM) and the weight of the goods

  4. 04

    Date and urgency

Short notice, departure at the weekend or on public holidays

  5. 05

    Special requirements and conditions

ADR, controlled temperature, customs, cargo insurance, plus the loading and unloading conditions and the waiting time

  6. 06

    Balance on the route

How easily the carrier finds a return load; the demand for trucks also varies with the season

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about road freight transport

Talk to the team

Who actually transports my goods?

A carrier chosen and checked by the HONEXPRES team for your run: before assigning it, we check its transport licence and CMR liability insurance. Once it is assigned, we send you the company name and the registration number, and the HONEXPRES team stays in touch with you from quote to delivery.

Groupage or full truckload?

If you have a few pallets and it is not urgent, groupage is usually the better value; if you take up most of the semi-trailer or want direct delivery, a full truckload. Check with What vehicle do I need? or let the HONEXPRES team recommend the option.

How much does road freight transport cost?

We do not publish fixed rates: each quote is calculated for your route, goods and date and states clearly what it includes, how long it is valid and what extra costs may arise. The price depends on the distance and route, the type of load (full truckload, part load or groupage), the vehicle, the loading and unloading conditions, the date and urgency, and special requirements; see what affects the cost.

Are the goods insured on the road?

The carrier is liable for the goods under the CMR Convention, but its liability is limited per kilogram, not to the value of the goods. For valuable goods we recommend separate cargo insurance; enter the value of the goods in your request and we will discuss the options. See also the glossary (CMR liability, cargo insurance).

How long does international road transport take?

It depends on the distance, the drivers’ driving and rest times, the weekend and public holiday driving restrictions in the transit countries and, on routes outside the EU, the customs formalities. In the quote we give you an estimated delivery window, not a promise we cannot control.

How do I find out where the goods are?

The HONEXPRES team confirms loading, any delays and delivery; at the end you receive the CMR copy signed by the consignee. For a transport in progress, write to us or call us; online tracking, Track & Trace, is in preparation.
