What does oversized goods mean?

Oversized goods refers to any products or goods that are too large or too heavy to be transported in a conventional manner.

Because of their weight or size, they have to be transported in specially designed containers, which require careful handling.

Vehicles used for oversized transport must meet certain additional requirements.

Obligations for vehicles used in oversized transport

Vehicles travelling in excess of the maximum permitted dimensions must be fitted with additional
signalling devices laid down by joint order of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure and the Minister of Administration and Interior.
A vehicle travelling in excess of the maximum permitted dimensions must be fitted with additional signalling devices.

The devices are as follows:

• on the cab and at the rear of the vehicle or of the load, as the case may be, a warning panel on each,
  placed in a visible position, bearing the inscription “TRANSPORT EXCEPŢIONAL!” (“EXCEPTIONAL TRANSPORT!”) or “ATENŢIE! GABARIT
  DEPĂŞIT!” (“CAUTION! OVERSIZED LOAD!”)
• two special yellow flashing warning lights, mounted on the vehicle cab so that the light they emit is visible at a distance of at least 100 m from the front, from the rear and from the sides;
• if the height of the load prevents the devices specified above from being visible from the rear, a further special yellow flashing warning light is additionally installed at the rear of the vehicle or of the load, as the case may be;
• if the width exceeds 3.20 m, yellow lights, reflectors or reflective tape,
  fitted along the side outline of the load, 1.5 m apart;
• where the maximum permitted width of the vehicle or of the load is exceeded, the lateral extremities shall be
  visibly marked, at the front and at the rear, with plates bearing strips of red-and-white reflective film, inclined at 45°, sloping down towards the outside of the vehicle or of the load, measuring 42 cm x 42 cm;
• mobile and/or portable two-way radio sets, with which contact can be kept with the certified personnel, where the vehicle has to be accompanied by an escort vehicle;
• additional road signalling equipment for cases of accidental stopping on the
  carriageway.
